Jeep Wrangler Hardtop and Door Removal

Jeep Wrangler Hardtop and Door Removal

The sun is shining, and there isn't a cloud in the sky. So, whether you are looking to hit the trail or head to the beach, this is where the Jeep Wrangler shines. There's only one problem your Wrangler's top and doors are still on. But, no sweat, removing them isn't overly complicated. With just a few tools, you can get your Wrangler top off in no time.

What Tools Will I Need to Remove My Jeep Wrangler Hardtop?

If you are looking to remove the Hardtop and doors on your Wrangler, it is a simple process requiring only a few tools. You will need a drill or ratchet with driver sockets, a T40 Torx bit, as well as a few bags or containers to put the bolts in when you're done. It would be easier if you had a friend to lend an extra hand. This entire process will take you about 30 minutes your first time and less the more you do it.

How to Remove the Front Panels of Your Jeep Wrangler's Hardtop?

You will start by removing the front panels. There are six latches holding them on, three up front and three in the back. Then, flip up the sun visors so you can reach the latches behind them. Then, go around and unlatch all six latches. Once the latches are unhooked, lift up on the driver-side panel to remove them, and do the same for the passenger side.

Unbolting the Hardtop's Rear Section.

Next, we will remove the hardtop's rear section. There are two T40 Torx bolts on each corner that need to be removed. With those two bolts removed, we can move to the rear. There are three T40 Torx bolts underneath the window on each side of the hardtop. Remove those bolts as you did in step three. Once all of the bolts are removed, disconnect the electrical connection by pushing on it and pulling it off.

Last Step, Picking Up the Hardtop!

Now time for that extra set of hands. Close the swing gate and have another pair of hands ready to help you lift and remove the hard top from the Wrangler. Once you have some help, lift up on each side of the hardtop and walk it toward the rear of the Wrangler. If you do not have a friend available, you can take the rear section off by yourself if you have a hoist or can balance the weight of the top. That's it! Place your Wrangler's hardtop safely and securely when not in use. It's also a good idea to put all the bolts in labeled bags and keep them with the hardtop so that you can find them when you need to put the top back on. Just reverse the process when you're ready to put the hardtop back on. Most importantly, have fun tackling the trails!
