Winter Tip: Keep Your Car's Gas Tank Full

Winter is a time of freezing temperatures and this could hurt your car's performance. An old rumor says you can get better gas mileage if you keep your gas tank less than half full. This is not the best advice: leaving space in your car's tank can lead to a water condensation buildup not only in your tank, but in your gas line. When freezing temperatures happen, this water buildup can freeze. The frozen water can clog your gas line and no fuel will get to your engine.

A full gas tank does not allow the condensation to occur. This may not seem easy on the budget, as gas prices may rise during the cold months, but it can help prevent a car that won't start on a cold winter morning.
