Recognizing the necessity for durable materials and the ability to clean mud from every surface, the interior of the Gladiator can stand up to whatever comes its way. Tough rubber surfaces are easy to wipe down, while the entire bottom of the vehicle can be flooded while crossing a river or washed down and drained using the handy floor plug. Under the seats, storage lockers keep gear stowed neatly, and the center console locks to keep valuables safe. The front seats have 12-way power-adjusted versatility that also includes lumbar support.
Outside, the Gladiator leaves no one guessing about its Jeep credentials, the iconic front grille and boxy profile calling to mind Jeep's long and rugged heritage both on and off the road. Exciting color choices help drivers personalize their Gladiator with new colors like Sarge Green or High-Velocity Yellow. Ground-eating 18-inch wheels are available on certain trims.
The new Gladiator's technology features are governed by Jeep's UConnect 4 infotainment system and accessed from the prominent seven-inch touchscreen in the dashboard. From there, drivers can access favorite playlists, available SiriusXM radio, hands-free telephone calls, and even 3-D satellite navigation in certain trims. Drivers can upgrade to a premium Alpine sound system for impressive audio, enjoying music and podcasts with superior sound quality. An available TrailCam makes all off-road adventures safer with its improved view of the road ahead. Certain trims offer a Wi-Fi hotspot, remote start, and an advanced information system that relays real-time status reports about pitch, roll, the state of the drivetrain and tire pressure, and other information pertinent to off-roading.
In addition to many of the latest driver assistance features, the Gladiator comes with specific safety measures that reflect its use as an offroad vehicle. Electronic stability control governs how the vehicle performs on various road surface conditions and works in tandem with electronic roll mitigation by keeping the vehicle upright and stable despite various maneuvers. Trailer sway control helps drivers maintain the upper hand even when towing a heavy trailer. Hill start assist keeps the vehicle in position while starting on an incline rather than rolling backward. On the highway, available adaptive cruise control helps to maintain a healthy distance from the vehicle ahead, while blind spot and rear path monitoring help to monitor the sides and rear of the vehicle for obstructions.
A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine fuels the Gladiator's rugged performance, its 285 horsepower matched by 260 pound-feet of torque. The Gladiator has two transmission options, depending on trim level: a manual six-speed transmission or an automatic eight-speed one. A standard 4x4 drivetrain offering impressive traction is available on the base model, while certain trims receive an upgraded Command-Trac system that offers increased off-road capability. Other off-road performance features include the ability to ford water up to 31 inches in depth, increased articulation for crawling over boulders, 11 inches of ground clearance for avoiding large rocks or tree limbs, a 7,700-pound towing capacity and a 1,700-pound payload capacity for hauling heavy loads around Williamston.
